High Voltage Switching
This module provides existing Senior Authorised Persons or AP's in training with a detailed understanding of high-voltage safety switching principles, standard operating practices, and approved procedures required to achieve and maintain safety from the system. The primary focus is the protection of persons working on or adjacent to high-voltage apparatus through the correct establishment of isolations, application of earths, and control of the system.
The module reinforces legislative compliance and strict adherence to site-specific safety rules, including the planning, authorisation and switching activities. Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, SAPs develop the competence required to manage system risk, issue and control safety documentation, and ensure work is carried out safely without risk to personnel, plant, or system integrity.
SAP Modules 1-4
Begin your academic journey towards becoming an Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person within site-specific safety rules. This programme starts with the foundations of Safety from the System, building a clear understanding of both the principles and their practical application across mechanical plant, low voltage, and high voltage apparatus. The journey is broken down into four separate modules.
Learning is delivered through structured, classroom-based sessions supported by real-life operational scenarios and site-specific examples, ensuring knowledge is directly transferable to the working environment.

High Voltage Switching - Refresher
This refresher course is designed for existing Authorised Persons to reaffirm their understanding of high-voltage safety management and the correct application of site safety rules. The course reinforces best practice in achieving and maintaining safety from the system, including the identification of apparatus, isolation, earthing, and the issue and control of safety documentation.
It also provides updates on changes to legislation, industry standards, and company procedures, together with familiarisation on any newly installed plant, equipment, or system modifications at your location. The course supports continued authorisation by ensuring SAP’s and AP’s remain competent, compliant, and confident in controlling HV systems and protecting persons working on or near high-voltage apparatus.
This course provides HV network operators working across national high-voltage networks, including the renewable energy industry, data centres and conventional fossil fuel generation, with a clear understanding of network configuration, system boundaries, and plant operation to support the safe and effective control of high-voltage systems. It covers alarm interpretation and prioritisation, enabling operators to respond appropriately to both normal and abnormal network conditions.
Delegates will gain practical knowledge of planned and unplanned operational switching, with a strong focus on achieving and maintaining safety from the system through correct isolation, earthing, and system control. The course also emphasises effective communication across operational boundaries, utilising RISSP procedures to manage interfaces and maintain clarity of authority and responsibility.
